Artist Statement

In my portfolio you are going to find different types of photographs, some of them photoshop and some of them just straight from the camera. I have learned a lot this semester from photoshop but mostly about using a camera.
Something that I learned and thought it was very easy is "fill in flash." Other things I learned were ISO, Shutter Speed, and aperture. These are very helpful in any situation and especially when your settings are dark.
I struggled with some things like my surrealism project. I knew what to do but I didn't know how to do it in photoshop. At the end I think I did a fair job, I really liked my sky with the flying CD's.
I had a good experience with my partners. My first partner was a great partner although she was shy in the beginning. What I liked about her was that she was creative and always did her work! I have to admit that she influece me because sometimes I didn't want to do my work but looking at her doing her work made me do mine. The other person that influence me was my great and best teacher Ms. Cook!! She is really cool and knows how to do a lot of things in photoshop and that push me to learn more about it! I enjoyed this class and I can say it was probably my best class this year.

Shuttter Speed

For these pictures all the lights were turned off. We had difficulties getting the right settings because you have to combine ISO and aperture. At the end we were kind of succesful. In the first picture you can see that with some bright objects we can create things.

ISO: Film Speed

ISO is how fast light goes in the camera. ISO can be measured like this 50, 400, 800, or 5000. When there is a lot of light you would use a low ISO like 50 that means that light goes in really fast so your picture won't come out with a lot of light in it.

Fill in flash experiment

Fill in flash is flash that you do when your camera "thinks" it doesn't need any light. What fill in flash does is that when you take a picture outside and you have shadows in your face or body the flash makes does dark shadows get a little more light, which makes the picture clear. The first two are great examples of fill in flash! the first one is using fill in flash and the second one is without fill in flash.

Metering

Metering measures the amount of ligh in the camera. These are the greates examples but metering does help a lot when taking a photograph in the dark. The way you meter is you have to get a sample of light first and the way you activate meter mode is to press the shutter half way down.

Surrealism: Attacked

This dream to me seems that it is about a troubled guy. It looks like if he is been chaced around by the same problem "crocodile" but it also seems that other things are bothering him not letting him see the clear sky. Having a girl in the back it makes me think that this girl is having the same problem as he is, maybe they are in the same problem together.

Surreal Practice Tutorials

We prepared for our surreal project by practicing different techniques we may want to use in our projects. In this tutorial we learned the value of layering textures using blending options to create an atmosphere with dream like qualities.
One thing I learned about this tutorial is that you can put different pictures together that have nothing to do with each other like putting a piece of the universe in this picture.

We then followed this tutorial found at http://www.voidix.com/eye_manipulation.html to give us ideas and practice combining images, reversing natural laws, transforming objects and using Photoshop to create a realistic surrealistic scene.
I learned how to paste an image into another one without making look obvious by fading them in.

Graduation Program

What I like about mine is that on the left side theres is like a "curtain" wich it makes it different from other programs. The thing I could of done better is doing something different with the student in the front side of the program because it looks like I just paste it on. I think it was harder than I though, the reason I say this is because it is hard to do something starting with a blank page. The most important aspects of Graphic design is having an open mind and a great imagination. Think about what you want to do and sketch your design! It is difficult to come up with something quickly.

Effects!

The effect I really like is the Cross Process wich is the first photograph. I like it because it make the colors come alive! They look really awesome. I like the Glow picture (second one) because this is how professional photographers make pictures look and it is something I learned that a lot of people don't know how to do.

Frames

My favorite picture out both of these and probably the year is the first one. I like it because in my opinion it has a more artistic touch to it. This picture came out from me throwing the frame and it got cought by the tumble weed so I thought it was really cool. What make this picture artistic is how I'm in the back of the tumble weed inside the frame. The way I'm looling it seems like I'm sad and lonely witch is something tumble weed can represent.

Color!

I really like my color pictures. I like my pictures because it has three very important colors red, blue, and green and they all contrast perfectly. The thing I would do better in the future is try to make the colors a little more alive.

Asymmetrical vs Symmetrical

The first photograph you see is asymmetrical. This implies that it is balance from right to left but with a different content, the person on the left balances all three people on the right because it is closer. Unlike the first photograph the second is symmetrical, it is perfectly balance with the same background and the same amount of people on each side. Having balance in a photograph is important to make the photo more interesting to see.

Group Collaboration

What I found difficult in this group photo was making sure everyone was doing what they had to do and waiting for the camera to actually take the picture since we didn't have a photographer. If we do this project again one thing I would change is making sure we all wear similar clothes so we can look better as a group

Leading Lines

Leading lines are lines that take your eyes to the emphasis. They make your eyes follow the line to the emphasis in a way that you don't think about it. In this photograph the bars going up the stairs are the leading lines that take you to the pretty girl on top which is our emphasis.

Contact Sheet

I really enjoyed doing this project and overall I think my contact sheet came out looking really nice. The one thing I could of done better was making my pictures in different angles and not just normal. The depth of field was my favorite compositional trick that i did especially the photograph that I took.

Cropping

This image was originaly wider and with a greater hight, what I did was cutting the image where i could only see my emphasis and the line on the wall leading to my emphasis. I like this cropped picture better because the original idea of taking this picture was this one but the camera took more than what I wanted.

Extreme Angles

What I did in this photograph was putting my model in a higher surface and I the photographer kneel down so I could see her from down below. I like how my model leans on the branch wich is going back making the angle even more extreme. I think I could of kneel down even more and gotten closer to the model that way the angle would be really extreme.

Macro

The macro function in your camera lets you take a photograph of anything from just a few inches away without making your photograph look blurry. Depth of field is when you take a macro photograph and your emphasis is clear but your background fades away. You would choose macro when you want to see the texture of something or to take a picture just a few inches away. I like this picture because i can see the texture infront of the picture and then it blurs out. The red leaf picture I like because you can see the texture of the leaf and the rest blurs out, and the green background make the red leaf stand out even more.

Rule of Thirds

This is my "rule of thirds" picture. The rule of thirds means putting your object (what you want people to see) in the bottom left or right hand corner or on the top left or right hand corner. This is why I put the circle on the top right hand corner instead of in the middle. This is how I used the "rule of thirds" in my photograph.
